In Japanese culture, the dragonfly (Tombo) is a revered symbol of courage, resilience and victory. Swift and unyielding in flight, it never retreats, earning its place as an emblem for warriors.
During Japan’s feudal era, samurai adorned their armour and weapons with dragonfly motifs, believing its unwavering forward motion reflected their own determination in battle. Dragonflies were also called Kachimushi, meaning “victory insects”.
Beyond the battlefield, the dragonfly embodies transformation. Beginning life in water, it rises into the air, embracing change with grace and lightness. Across cultures, it is seen as a messenger of adaptability, reminding us that true resilience is not in resisting change but in moving through it with strength and beauty.
